Describe - tell exactly what you see in a piece |
1.) I used 1 pt. perspective 2.) I used a pencil to draw and plan and colored pencils to color 3.) I took this photo while waiting to be seated at a restaurant in downtown apex. 4.) I found it difficult to get the right colors to match with the actual photo. It was also hard to blend the colors and make them look smooth. In the future, I would have painted this with acrylic paint. |
1.) I used five different mediums and techniques
-paper mache background
-glitter important objects
-stencil the ball and flags
-stitch flag lines
-acrylic paint for elephant and stripe background
2.) My word was dream and I made a circus because in a dream I had once I thought of the circus in Coraline the movie so I was inspired by that.

1.) Since completing the in-progress blogpost, I have added a layer of light blue glaze to represent the water and have also painted the Lilly pads and the lotus flower with acrylic paint. To seal the newly painted detailed, I glazed it and then it was finished.
2.) I think the most successful part of my box is how realistic the flower on top is. I spent a lot of time on the highlights and textures of the flower's petals and I think in the end, it payed off because the colours are right and it looks just how I envisioned it.
3.) If I were to do it again, I would have glazed over with the light blue just a couple more times because there are some parts in the carvings on the side where it is not completely glazed but other than that I am very proud of this piece.

1.) My piece shows off the theme of 'line' because I used it to make a wavy background to symbolize water in this piece.
2.) I think my piece is successful in making you feel like your underwater and actually observing the octopus. I personally get Pirates of the Caribbean vibes off of it. If I where to make some changes, I would have made the lines the part I cut out not around it. Also, I would have been more conscious of how deep I was cutting because sometimes, the print was not as vibrant as I would have liked it to be.

1.) I plan to finish the piece by glazing the box itself with a light blue glaze. Once fired I will paint the Lilly pads and the lotus flower with acrylic paint to show the details better. Lastly I plan to paint over the glazed finished piece and paint in some flower carvings on the side of the box.
2.) So far I have found it difficult to blend the sides in the box and make the sides of the box nice and clean cut.
3.) So far though, I have been successful at cutting and shaping the lotus flower on top because it was easy to shape the petals and bend them into an open flower shape.
4.) We started off with a slab of clay that we cut into the template of our desired box. Once that was done we stuck the pieces together by slipping and scoring the piece. Then, the piece was fired until it was done and it turned white.
